Cyclones Storm Past Volunteer

Elizabethton hit the gas pedal early and never looked back.

The Cyclones rolled to a 59-6 Region 1-4A victory over Volunteer on Friday night inside Citizen’s Bank Stadium.

Elizabethton opened the scoring when Climate Controllers Player of the Week Nate Stephens scored on a 49-yard run as EHS took a 7-0 lead four minutes into the game.

Caleb Campbell pushed the lead to 10-0 with a 30-yard field goal, and the Cyclones took a 17-0 lead after Stephens scored on a one-yard run in the final minute of the first quarter.

After Elizabethton recovered an onside kick, Stephens scored on a three-yard run as EHS took a 24-0 lead into the second quarter.

Elizabethton kept its foot on the gas in the second.
After Cade Russell found the endzone from nine yards out, Stephens scored again just past the midpoint of the quarter with a three-yard run as Elizabethton took a 38-0 lead.

The Cyclones held a 45-0 lead after the break as Stephens added a 13-yard touchdown in the closing minute of the first half.

Bradley Cannon and Luke Whaley recorded second-half touchdowns for the Cyclones.

Stephens finished with 104 yards on 10 carries, while Russell had four carries for 62 yards.

Dalton Mitchell was 11-of-13 passing for 173 yards for the Cyclones, while Gib Maupin was 2-for-2 for 40 yards.

Jeriah Giffin had three catches for 64 yards.
