Elizabethton hit the gas pedal early and never looked back.
The Cyclones rolled to a 49-12 victory at Volunteer on Friday night to clinch a No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
Elizabethton improved to 7-1 with the win.
The Cyclones wasted no time.
Cade Russell scored on a one-yard run to give EHS an early lead – a score that was set up by a 44-yard pass from Bryson Rollins to Jake Roberts.
Rollins pushed the lead to 14-0 with a nine-yard touchdown.
The Falcons were able to get on the board, but Elizabethton answered as Rollins hit Roberts for a 31-yard touchdown midway through the quarter. Roberts and Rollins connected in the closing minutes of the half for a 53-yard touchdown.
Volunteer was able to get on the board in the closing moments of the half, to trim the EHS lead to 28-12 at the half.
In the second half, it was all Elizabethton.
The Cyclone defense limited the Falcons’ offense. EHS extended the lead with a short run from Rollins, and Nate Stephens caught a 27-yard pass from Rollins for a score.
Russell capped the scoring with just over two minutes left with a five-yard touchdown.
Rollins finished the game 8-of-13 passing for 212 yards while adding 104 yards on 15 carries.
Roberts had four catches for 180 yards, while Russell ended the game with 161 yards on 27 carries.
As a team, Elizabethton tallied 480 yards of offense.
The Cyclones are set to return to action on Friday, October 29, with a trip to Seymour.
