EHS climbs in AP poll, Bulldogs, Warriors hold steady

A county team moved into the top five, while the stage is set for a crucial clash of top 10 teams with the latest AP High School Football poll.

In Class 3A, Elizabethton picked up a two spots to climb to No. 5. The Cyclones, who picked up a convincing win over Tennessee High, tallied 65 points in the poll.


Alcoa was an unanimous No. 1. Sequatchie County, Milan and CAK held down the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots.

Elizabethton will travel to Pigeon Forge on Friday night.

In Class 2A, Hampton remained No. 7 and Happy Valley remained No. 9. The Bulldogs, who held on for a victory over Cloudland, tallied 62 points to hold steady, while the Warriors – who dominated Unaka – picked up 29 points to take sole possession of the No. 9 position.

Adamsville was No. 1 in the poll with 10 first place votes, and Marion County and Watertown rounded out the top three.

Hampton and Happy Valley are set to square off on Friday night at JC Campbell Stadium.
