The Elizabethton football team took care of business Friday night.
The Cyclones advanced with a 44-8 victory over East Ridge in the Class 4A playoffs at Citizen Bank Stadium. Elizabethton will take on Sullivan South – who upset East Hamilton in the first round – in the second round next Friday in Elizabethton.
Against East Ridge, the Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back.
EHS jumped out to a 13-0 lead after a quarter of play, and pushed the margin to 23-0 at the half after Jaxton Holly hit a field goal in the closing seconds.
The Cyclones continued to cruise in the second half and led 37-8 after three complete quarters.
Class 4A Mr. Football Semifinalist Bryson Rollins led the way as the sophomore scored three touchdowns on the ground as he tallied nine carries for 76 yards. Through the air, Rollins was an impressive 11-of-14 for 143 yards.
Cade Maupin also had a strong performance behind an EHS offensive line that set the tone. Maupin had 14 carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Stephens also added a touchdown for the Cyclone cause.
Zach Hartley and Braden Holly had 76 and 35 receiving yards, respectively.
