Elizabethton rolls past East in region play

Elizabethton found a groove and never looked back.

The Cyclones cruised to a 59-16 victory over Sullivan East on Friday night in Bluff City. It was the Region 1-4A opener for Elizabethton as EHS improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in region play.


Corey Russell opened the scoring for Elizabethton with an 11-yard run, and Carter Everett hit Ryan Wentzel for a 22-yard touchdown pass to give EHS a 15-0 lead midway through the second. After East added a field goal, Russell sent Elizabethton into the second quarter with a 21-3 lead after a 33-yard touchdown run.

Everett hit Wetzel early in the second for the duo’s second touchdown of the night and EHS pushed the advantage to 30 points when Russell scored from 21 yards out. The junior quarterback Everett found Russell for a 13-yard score later in the quarter.

After Sullivan East put a touchdown on the board, Everett scored on a one-yard dive to send Elizabethton into the half with a 45-10 lead.

Austin Outland caught an Everett pass for a touchdown, and Gavin Lowe scored on a 17-yard run to account for the scoring.

Everett finished the game 22-of-29 for 283 yards. Russell finished with 161 yards on nine carries.
