Elizabethton took care of business on Friday night.
The Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back in a 49-7 victory over Sullivan South in the TSSAA Class 4A Playoffs at Citizens Bank Stadium.
With the win, Elizabethton advances to host Greeneville next Friday night.
After the regular-season meeting with Sullivan South came down to a blocked extra point, EHS wasted no time seizing control.
Bryson Rollins found Braden Holly for an 11-yard touchdown pass on the game’s opening drive, and Jaxton Holly added the extra point to give EHS a 7-0 lead 1:17 into the game. After the Elizabethton defense forced South off the field quickly, Rollins hit Parker Hughes in stride and the speedy receiver went 95 yards for the touchdown.
The next Elizabethton drive ended when Rollins and Hughes connected – this time for a 40-yard touchdown to give EHS a 21-0 lead with 4:13 to play in the first.
From there, it was all Elizabethton,
Cade Maupin added a 12-yard touchdown, while Zach Hartley caught a Rollins pass for a seven-yard touchdown to give EHS a 35-0 lead at the half.
Elizabethton saw Nate Stephens add a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and Rollins and Hughes connected again on the first play of the fourth to account for the Cyclone scoring.
Rollins finished the game 12-of-17 for 334 yards and five touchdowns, while Hughes had six catches for 198 yards and three touchdowns.
Maupin had eight carries for 56 yards, and also added two catches for 67 yards. Stephens finished with 83 yards rushing on 14 carries.
