Elizabethton senior Matthew Dailey received a large honor on Friday.
Dailey was selected as a finalist for the Class AA Mr. Base by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association. The senior was joined by Pigeon Forge’s Noah Gent and Will Shelton of Alcoa High School.
The 2019 Mr. Baseball will be announced at the awards ceremony at New Vision Baptist Church on May 21.
Dailey has played a large role in Elizabethton’s success this season both at the plate and defensively at third base and on the mound. During the regular season, he recorded a .420 batting average with 29 RBI.
On the mound, Dailey finished the regular season with seven wins. He struck out 57 batters with a 1.90 ERA.
Dailey and the Cyclones are set to host Claiborne County at 6 p.m., on Monday in the Region 1-AA semifinals. A win would clinch a berth in the Region 1-AA Championship and more importantly a substate game.
