Hampton unable to keep pace with late charge

Hampton went toe-to-toe with Greenville on Friday night. However, the Lady Greene Devils had the knockout punch.

Greeneville ended the game on a 13-3 run to take a 45-32 victory over the Lady Bulldogs at Elizabethton.

In the first quarter, Hampton saw Hope Bridgeman cap the first quarter scoring with a trey as Greeneville held a 14-9 lead. The Lady Bulldogs used a 4-0 run over the final two minutes of the second to pull within four at the half.

Megan Garland opened the second half scoring as Hampton tied the game at 22 to open the third. However, Greeneville answered with a run of their own to take a 32-27 lead at the end of three.

Hampton closed the gap to three with a 3-pointer. However, the Lady Greene Devils pulled away with the 13-3 run to take the victory.

Alexus Grubbs led Hampton with 14 points. Bridgman and Stephanie Carriger had six points apiece. Sydni Lollar had 16 points to pace Greeneville.

Hampton will square off against Gate City at 6 p.m. at Elizabethton.
