Unfortunately, Homecoming 2017 didn’t go Happy Valley’s way on Friday night.

The Warriors were unable to rally for a second time in a 27-19 decision to Grace Christian on Warrior Hill on Friday night. It was the first loss of the season for Happy Valley.

Grace Christian opened the game with 10-yard touchdown pass from Kirby Logan to take a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. After the Rams increased the lead to 14-0 early in the second, HV’s offense got rolling.

Dakota Cochran ran into the end zone from a yard out for the first Warrior score, and Brayden Sams hit Luke Phillips for a five-yard touchdown. Happy Valley trailed 14-13 at the half after a missed extra point.

The third quarter saw Sams find Cochran for a touchdown pass as the Warrior took their first lead of the night. Grace, however, answered to regain a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

HV was unable to convert a field goal four minutes into the final period, and Grace pushed the lead to 27-19 late in the fourth.

On the last drive of the night, HV got into striking distance but was unable to force an extra period.

Cochran had 101 yards on 12 carries, while Sams went 8-of-13 for 73 yards.

Happy Valley is set to host Johnson County next Friday.
