Matthew Bahn and Happy Valley picked up where they left off before the bye week.
Bahn powered HV with a strong running effort as the Warriors rolled to a 30-16 victory over Johnson County on Friday night in Mountain City. It was the third straight win of the season for the Warriors as HV improves to 4-2 on the year.
Happy Valley got on the board early.
After pinning the Longhorns at the two on the opening kickoff, Cayden Campbell recorded a safety as the Warriors took 2-0 lead seconds into the game.
Happy Valley moved the ball efficiently after the free-kick, but Johnson County nabbed an interception and returned it for the pick-six to take the lead.
The Warriors, however, answered as Eli Ayers hit Bahn for a 67-yard touchdown to give HV the lead. On the ensuing Happy Valley drive, the Warriors saw Ayers sneak into the endzone for the touchdown – a play that was set-up by a long Bahn run.
Late in the second quarter, Logan Groom set-up an Andrew Little touchdown with an interception to take a 22-6 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, Gabe Nickles nabbed an interception for the Warriors deep in HV territory, but Johnson County forced a safety a couple of players later.
After the Warriors forced a quick punt, Bahn broke free for a 27-yard touchdown to give HV a 30-8 advantage.
Johnson County was able to add a late touchdown with a Dalton Brown 24-yard run, but the Warrior offense was able to run the clock and the HV defense stifled the Longhorns.
Bahn finished with 41 carries for 233 carries.
The Warriors are slated to return to conference action next Friday night as Sullivan North will visit Warrior Hill.
