HV Cross Country teams punch ticket to state

The Happy Valley cross country teams are heading to state.

The Warriors and Lady Warriors clinched a spot in the TSSAA Cross Country State Championships with strong performances at the TSSAA Region 1 Small School Championships.

The Lady Warriors claimed a second-place finish with a strong showing.

Sophomore Holly Moore finished in third with a time of 22:38. Haley Miller also recorded a top 10 finish as she crossed the line ninth with a mark of 24:36.


Aubrie Caldwell covered the course in a time of 27:31 for a finish of 16th. Kalee Roark finished in 19th with a mark of 28:10, while Kalee Lane finished in 20th with a time of 28:51. Chelsea Arnold and Gracyn Carder finished in 21st and 22nd, respectively.

On the boys side, Happy Valley ran to a third-place finish to earn a spot.

The Warriors were led by Jacob Absher as the senior finished ninth with a time of 19:45. Senior Spencer Babb finished 21st with a mark of 21:35, while sophomore Gavin Call came in 24th with a time of 22:21.

Cameron Sloane recorded a finish of 27th. Skyler McCurry rounded out the Warriors with a 36th place finish.

University High won the event, while West Greene finished in second.

The 2019 TSSAA Cross Country State Championships are set for Nov. 2, at Percy Warner Park outside Nashville.
