The Happy Valley basketball programs dropped a tough set of heartbreakers on Tuesday night.

The Lady Warriors saw Unicoi score at the buzzer to take a 40-39 win, while the Warriors dropped a 55-49 decision to the Blue Devils.

In the girls’ game, Happy Valley was unable to get an offense going in the opening minutes.

The Lady Warriors went scoreless through the first quarter and three minutes into the second before they got their first score. After trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, HV scored 20 points in the final five minutes of the half to take a 20-15 lead at the break.

Happy Valley limited the Lady Blue Devil opportunities in the third quarter holding them to six points. Unicoi, however, answered with a strong run in the final quarter setting up the stage for the last-second winner.

Olivia Absher had 10 points to lead HV, while Jaiden Clark had nine points.

In the boys game, Happy Valley had to battle from behind.

Unicoi methodically pulled way to a 32-19 lead in the first half. The Warriors, however, battled back as they trimmed the Unicoi to five points in the closing minutes.  HV was unable to get any closer as Unicoi’s Brock Thompson secured the win at the free throw line.

Dylan Willis had 18 points – including 11 in the fourth quarter – to lead Happy Valley. Luke Roberts scored 10 points in the game.
