HV pulls past Unicoi for win

It was home, sweet home for Happy Valley on Friday night.

The Warriors battled past Unicoi County to take a 27-14 victory on Warrior Hill to break into the win column this season as well as hand the Blue Devils their first loss of the season.


Happy Valley set the tone early.

Bryce Carter caught an Eli Ayers pass for a 13-yard touchdown to give HV an early 7-0 lead after the Michael Harrah extra point.The Warriors added to their lead then senior Dakota Cochran dived into the end zone from three yards out to send HV to the second quarter with a 13-0 lead.

After the teams traded possessions in the second, Unicoi got on the board right before half as Brock Thompson hit Austin O’Dell for a touchdown on fourth down That cut the HV lead to 13-7 going to the half.

In the second half, Unicoi got a quick start as Kody Lewis converted a fourth down with a touchdown to give UCHS a 14-13 advantage late in the third quarter.

Happy Valley, however, wasn’t finished.

Ayers and Cochran connected again – this time for a 40-yard touchdown that gave HV a 21-14 lead. Cochran iced the game for the Warriors with a one-yard touchdown.

On the game, Cochran tallied 11 carries for 70 yards, while Ayers was 8-of-10 passing.

The Warriors will return to Warrior Hill next Friday for Homecoming 2018 as they welcome Cosby.
