HV, Unaka advance to JC Invite Championship game

Gray will have some Carter County flare for the Johnson City Honda Classic championship Thursday at Daniel Boone High School.

Unaka coasted to a 72-49 victory over Unicoi County while Happy Valley took a 46-35 win to punch tickets to the title contest in the final day of pool play games on Wednesday.

The championship is set for an 8 p.m. tip-off.

Hannah Tipton went off for Unaka in the opening game with 30 points as the team showed their authority early with a 21-5 lead through the end of the first quarter.

Lexi Garland tallied in 10 points, respectively, as nine Lady Rangers hit the scoring column in the triumph.

The Lady Blue Devils were led by a 12 point effort from sophomore post player Halie Padgett.

In the second contest, Kalee Johnson and Emily Whitaker led the way with 14 and 12 points each while receiving stiff competition from the Lady Cougars.

Sydney Hurd led Sullivan Central with a game-high 16 points.

Lady Ranger Katlyn Burrow took home the crown during the tourney’s 3-point contest after the HV/Central game.
