BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 23, 2019) – Sarah Robinson scored 20 points and added five rebounds, Mackenzie Raizor tallied her team leading seventh double-double of the season, and the Milligan College women’s basketball team weathered a late storm to defeat Union College, 72-61, Wednesday.

The win improved Milligan, winner of eight of the last nine, to 17-4 (15-2 AAC) where the Buffs remain two games back of Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Bryan. Union, which had won eight of the last 10 entering the game, fell to 12-9 (9-8 AAC). Milligan’s win was its ninth over Union in the last 10 meetings. The Buffs also won the season series after posting an 86-76 victory over the Bulldogs at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse back in November.

MILLIGAN WEATHERS LATE STORM
Milligan led by as many as 20 in the first half before Union battled back to cut it to four, 61-57, with less than four minutes to go in regulation. Milligan’s answer came in the form of a 7-1 run, part of an 11-4 run to end the game.

Emma Kate Brown hit a big 3-pointer as the shot clock wound down to punctuate the former run as Milligan went ahead by 10, 68-58, with less than a minute and a half left.

BIG RUNS EARLY FIRST QUARTER, LATE SECOND QUARTER
Union scored the first two baskets of the night, but the rest of the first half was nearly all Milligan. Down 4-0, the Buffaloes responded with a 10-0 run to go into the lead for good. Andi Lamb and Cassidy Anderson connected on 3-pointers during the first-quarter spurt, and the three-ball was a big factor shortly thereafter as Milligan extended the lead in a big way heading into the halftime locker room.

Milligan led 30-21 midway through the second quarter before finishing the half on a 12-3 run over the last four minutes. Emily Kiser hit two triples, and Brown knocked down four free throws during the stretch.

GAME LEADERS
Robinson’s 20 points led all scorers and she added five rebounds and four assists. Raizor registered 13 points and 12 rebounds as one of two others in double figures. Brown scored 11.

For Union, two Bulldogs made it to double figures. LeAsia Linton scored 13 and Brooke Hammonds scored 11.

UP NEXT
Milligan returns to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse this Saturday for an AAC matchup with Reinhardt University at 2 p.m. It will be the first of four remaining home games for the Buffs this season.
