Ten Buffaloes made it into the scoring column and four were in double figures as the Milligan College women’s basketball team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Truett McConnell University, 78-55, Monday evening in a makeup game on the road.

The win improved Milligan to 21-4 (19-2 AAC) and kept the Buffs within two games of the AAC lead. It also marked the third time this season Milligan won five games in a row as the Buffs have now won their last five and 12 of their last 13. Truett McConnell entered the day 12th in the league and fell to 5-20 (4-17 AAC).

Milligan, after beating TMU 84-50 at home Nov. 28, swept the season series and has now won six straight games against Truett, improving to 11-2 head-to-head since the Bears joined the AAC in 2013.

STRONG FIRST HALF LEADS TO EASY WIN
Truett McConnell held the early lead, but it was short lived. After falling behind 13-5 through the first seven minutes of the contest, Milligan unleashed a 16-5 run to end the period. Hannah Wyrick (five), Kaely Gose (two) and Teal Davis (four) helped Milligan score on each of its last five possessions of the opening frame, and the Buffs carried the momentum into the second, improving the run to 32-12 by the half.

Andi Lamb scored the last four points of the first half as Milligan went into the locker room with a 37-25 lead, its largest of the game until that point. Milligan held Truett to only seven points in the second quarter.

Milligan then went out by as many as 29 in the third quarter on the way to securing the victory.

Gose led the Buffs with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting while adding three rebounds and two assists. Lamb (13), Davis (12 points, five rebounds) and Sarah Robinson (11 points, six rebounds) followed in double figures for scoring. Wyrick went 2-for-3 from the perimeter to finished with eight points. Emma Kate Brown was 4-for-6 from the field and also finished with eight points.

For Truett, Sierra Kendall was the only player to reach double figures as she finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
