Lady Cyclones Advance Into District 1-3A Title Game, Region 1-A Tournament

Elizabethton softball took care of business on Wednesday.

The Lady Cyclones earned a spot in the District 1-3A Championship game as well as a spot in the Region 1-3A tournament with a 7-2 victory over Volunteer at Sullivan East.

Elizabethton is set to take on Tennessee High at 5p at Sullivan East in the championship game. The Lady Cyclones will need to win the first game to force an if-necessary game.

After three scoreless innings, Elizabethton struck first in the top of the fourth with two outs.

Madisun Pritchard hit a triple to right field that brought Kenidy Harris across the plate, and then Mollie Johnson plated the run with a single as EHS took a 2-0 advantage into the home side of the fourth.

Volunteer evened things up in the bottom of the fifth with two runs.

Elizabethton, however, responded in a big way in the top of the sixth.

Ember Jensen crossed the plate off a Johnson single, and Cheyenne Poiroux hit a double to left field to bring Lana Ward and Johnson in for the score.

Emma O’Quinn kept the scoring going with a single that brought Poiroux across the plate to give EHS a 6-2 lead.

Maddie O’Quinn hit a shot to left field that scored Maely Ingram in the top of the seventh to secure the win for EHS.

E. O’Quinn and Johnson had two hits a piece to pace EHS, while Poiroux and Johnson each had two RBI.

Pritchard picked up the win as she allowed two unearned runs on nine hits and recorded seven strikeouts
