The Lady Cyclones took care of business and brought some hardware back with them.
Elizabethton captured the Region 1-AA Championship with a 50-40 victory over Grainger on Wednesday night at Grainger.
EHS will host Gatlinburg-Pittman in Saturday’s substate round.
The Lady Cyclones set the tone early.
Kaylen Shell scored four early points and the EHS defense limited Grainger to just four points over the first eight minutes. That allowed the Lady Cyclones to take a 9-4 lead into the second quarter as Morgan Headrick knocked down a 3-pointer and Kelsie Winters added a jumper.
In the second quarter, Elizabethton stayed hot from behind the 3-point line. EHS outscored the Lady Grizz 21-12 in the second stanza to take a 30-16 lead at the break.
Elizabethton continued to have the momentum in the opening minutes of the third quarter as EHS pushed the lead to 19 points.
Grainger, however, battled back with a 12-0 run to trim the Lady Cyclone lead. Elizabethton maintained a seven-point lead after three complete quarters.
The fourth quarter saw Grainger make another run at Elizabethton, but the Lady Cyclones took care of business at the free-throw line to secure the win.
Headrick, who was named the Region 1-AA Tournament MVP, finished with 14 points. Shell scored 13 points in the win, while Lina Lyon and Torrie Roberts had eight points apiece. Kaitlin Bailey had five points apiece.
