The Lady Cyclones were unable to shake off a slow start on Wednesday night.

Elizabethton dropped a 5-2 decision to Unicoi County in the Region 1-AA Championship game.

With the loss, the Lady Cyclones will travel to Gibbs on Friday’s sectional action with the winner advancing to the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Blue Devils jumped out early as a first-inning home run and two more runs in the third gave UC 4-0 lead after three complete innings. During that stretch, Elizabethton was unable to plate runners as they left five runners on base.

Neither team was able to get back on the board until the bottom of the sixth when Lauren Brickey hit a home run over the left field fence to put EHS on the board. Kira Dillard also scored in the inning to cut the UC lead to 4-2. The Lady Blue Devils, however, got one of the runs back in the top of the seventh.

Elizabethton saw Bailey Creasy get on base to open the seventh, but the Lady Cyclones were unable to rally.

Dillard and Brickey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Cyclones, while Kaylin Shell and Haley Fair had a hit apiece.

In the circle, Brickey was handed the loss as she allowed just five earned runs.
