On a rainy evening, Elizabethton were unable to make a rally for state.

The Lady Cyclones came up short in a 9-2 loss to Union County in the Class AA substate matchup at Elizabethton. The loss ends a stellar season for EHS.

The Lady Cyclones found themselves in an early hole. Union County loaded the bases and quickly added a run to open the game. However, Kelli Cunningham recorded back-to-back strikeouts and caught a pop-up to limit the damage done. Elizabethton was unable to even the score in the home side the inning.

After a scoreless second, the Lady Patriots added two runs to increase the lead. Lauren Brickey knocked in a run in the home side of the frame to cut the gap to 3-1. Union County doubled their run total in the top side of the fifth to take a 6-1 advantage.

After a brief rain delay, the teams returned to action and Elizabethton quickly added a run. However, that would be the only run EHS could add. Union County secured the win with a pair of home runs in the seventh to send the Lady Patriots to the state tournament.

Elizabethton had four hits in the game.
