For the second year in a row, the Lady Cyclones are playing for a District 1-AA Championship.
Elizabethton won a thrilling 51-46 victory over Sullivan East in double overtime in the semifinals on Saturday at Sullivan East.
Elizabethton will take on Sullivan Central in the Championship match on Monday at 7:30p, and will also host a Region 1-AA quarterfinal on Friday night.
On Saturday, Elizabethton found themselves in a tussle.
Renna Lane and Morgan Headrick hit shots for EHS in the first quarter, but East was able to take a 12-7 advantage after a quarter of play. Kaitlin Bailey hit a pair of baskets in the second quarter, but EHS was unable to cut into the deficit as they trailed 24-14 at the half.
Elizabethton, however, started making a run in the third
A balanced Lady Cyclone attack trimmed three points of the deficit in the third quarter, and EHS turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter as they allowed just four points. The offense was sparked by five points from Kaylen Shell. In the closing seconds, East missed a game-winner 3-pointer as the teams went to overtime.
After the first overtime ended in a stalemate, Bailey and Headrick took over for the Lady Cyclones as the duo combined for eight points to send EHS to the win.
Bailey finished with 14 points, while Headrick had 12 points. Shell and Lyon had eight and seven points, respectively.
