Lady Cyclones pull away for win

The Lady Cyclones had a test early on Friday night, and Elizabethton passed with flying colors.

Elizabethton improved to 7-0 with a 71-47 win over Gate City (Va.) inside Treadway Gymnasium.

The Lady Cyclones and Lady Blue Devils traded points early before Kayla Marosites drained a 3-pointer to push EHS ahead 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.Elizabethton pushed the lead to double-digits with shots by Emily Kiser and Marosites, but Gate City ended the first half on a 6-0 run to cut the Lady Cyclone lead to 34-26 at the break.

In the second half, Elizabethton turned up the pressure on the visiting Blue Devils and limited Gate City to just five points while scoring 17. That proved to be the catalyst as EHS took a 20-point lead into the final quarter.

Marosites led the way with 31 points, while Kiser finished with 14 points. Kelli Marosites added 13 points. Emily Schubert added eight tough points for Elizabethton.

Rachel Kilgore led Gate City with 14 points.

Elizabethton returns to action on Saturday in a clash of undefeated teams with Greeneville. Tipoff is set for 7:30. Gate City and Hampton face off at 6 p.m., on Saturday.
