Elizabethton had their work cut out for them on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop them from getting the job done.

The Lady Cyclones erased a five-run deficit to take a 10-6 victory over Unicoi County to claim the Region 1-AA Softball title.

With the win, Elizabethton will host Union County for the second straight season in the sectional round.

After the Lady Blue Devils put a run on the board in the top of the first, Unicoi added four more in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. The home side of the second saw Abbi McKinney pushed Autumn Hensley across home plate for the first Elizabethton run.

The inning continued as Macie Herrmann hit a liner to left field that scored Kira Dillard, and Lauren Brickey pushed Allison Riddle and McKinney with a double as EHS closed the lead to 5-4.

Neither team was able to score in the third.

Maci West tied the game as her double scored Brickey in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Cyclones took their first lead of the night as Hensley hit a single that allowed West to touch home plate.

The Lady Blue Devils tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the fifth. However, Elizabethton answered again in a big way. Brickey, West and Jessica Cunningham pushed runs across home plate as EHS took a 10-6 lead into the sixth.

From there, it was all Elizabethton.

West, Hensley and Dillard went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Cyclones, while Brickey and McKinney had two hits apiece.

Brickey picked up the win as she allowed one earned one on five hits.
