The Lady Cyclones had a successful first day at the Grand Strand Classic.
Elizabethton picked up two wins on Monday as they dispatched AB Ryan 7-4 and East Lake (OH) 7-4 in North Myrtle Beach.
Against AB Ryan, Elizabethton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Maggie Johnson drove Maddie O’Quinn across the plate. EHS pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third as Kira Dillard and Johnson touched home.
After AB Ryan plated two runs in the home side of the third and tied the game up in the fourth, Elizabethton erupted for four runs in the top of the fifth to take control of the game.
Haley Fair, Madisun Pritchard, Edwards and Johnson each recorded two hits for the Lady Cyclones. Pritchard picked up the complete game win as she allowed just two earned runs on five hits.
In the second game of the day, East Lake jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Autumn Hensley answered with a three-run homerun that also scored O’Quinn and Dillard.
The teams went scoreless in the second and third, and East Lake tied the game in the top of the fourth, but Elizabethton answered as a Dillard single scored O’Quinn.
Elizabethton added a run in the home side of the fifth as Marley Wagner pushed Johnson across home plate. In the bottom of the sixth, Kaylen Shell and Dillard scored to account for the final Elizabethton runs of the day.
Dillard finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, while Johnson was 3-for-4. O’Quinn, Hensley and Wagner each had two hits.
Kalie Peters picked up the win in the circle as she allowed just three earned runs on hits in a complete game performance.
