Tennessee Volleyball opens the season ranked No. 19 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason Poll, as announced Tuesday.
This marks the eighth time in program history the Lady Vols have been ranked in the AVCA Preseason Poll and their highest ranking since the 2012 season. UT was ranked the final six weeks of the 2018 season. In all, Tennessee was either ranked or receiving votes in 13 of the 16 polls last season.
Tennessee’s 2019 schedule features five matches against teams ranked in the initial top-25 poll. This includes four matches against top-10 teams.
UT opens the season with a pair of matches against No. 6 Illinois who reached the Final Four a season ago. The first match of the season is scheduled for Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. in Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Lady Vols are one of three teams in the SEC to be ranked in the preseason as they are joined by Florida and Kentucky. Tennessee will host the Wildcats on Oct. 16 which is 11 days before traveling to Gainesville for a match with the Gators.
