It was a mixed bag of results for the Elizabethton and Happy Valley basketball programs on Friday on Warrior Hill.
The Lady Warriors picked up 62-56 victory over the Lady Cyclones, while the Cyclones picked up their first win of the season with a 53-42 win over the Warriors.
In the girls’ game, the teams swapped runs in the early going. The Lady Warriors took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter, but Elizabethton held Happy Valley to just five points in the second frame. Kaylen Shell and Destiny Little hit shots to help the Lady Cyclones take a 28-20 lead into the half.
Happy Valley’s Kate Roberts took control in the third quarter. Roberts scored early and often during the quarter to power HV to a 42-38 lead going to the fourth. The Lady Warriors saw Haley Green as well as Roberts hit shots in the final quarter to keep Elizabethton at bay.
Adrienne Henegar led all scorers with 20 points, while Roberts finished with 18 points. Green tallied 10 points. Olivia Absher and Tiana Long had seven and six points, respectively.
Elizabethton was led by Little’s 12 points. Morgan Headrick and Kaitlyn Light had 11 points apiece, while Camryn Koroma had eight points.
In the boys’ game, the opening quarter saw EHS jump out to an 11-4 lead before HV battled back to take a 14-13 advantage as the first quarter expired.
Elizabethton, however, jumped out to start the second quarter as the Cyclones jumped back ahead. The teams traded shots late in the quarter as EHS maintained a 29-26 lead at the half.
After a Cyclone run pushed the lead out, the Warriors answered with a run of their own to close the deficit to 38-33. Elizabethton, however, pushed the advantage out in the final eight minutes and held on to take the win.
Elizabethton saw Eric Wilson score 17 points. Adam Cornett and Evan Perkins had 11 points each, while Nico Ashley added nine points.
Happy Valley was led by Noah Stevens’ 15 points. Brayden Sams and Kevin Whitaker had nine and eight points, respectively.
