Happy Valley was unable to extend the season on Wednesday night.
The Lady Warriors came up short as they dropped a 55-38 decision to Unicoi County in the District 1-2A tournament on Warrior Hill.
It was a tight battle in the early going.
Gabby Wood knocked down the first bucket of the game, and Olivia Absher added an early bucket as HV took a 4-3 lead in the early going.
Unicoi jumped out to a 12-6 lead, but Kadie Bailey and Wood hit shots to close the Lady Warriors back within three points at the end of the first quarter.
After Unicoi opened the second-quarter scoring with a pair of free throws, Absher added three points to close HV back within a point with just under five minutes to play in the half.
The Lady Blue Devils, however, went on a 10-2 run to get a little separation. A last-second Absher shot cut the deficit to 27-20 at the break.
The teams continued to trade shots in the third quarter.
Unicoi pushed the lead to 12 points, but the Lady Warriors answered with shots from Marcida Moore and Absher to close the gap again. A quick 6-0 Unicoi run gave the Lady Blue Devils a 40-27 lead at the break.
In the final eight minutes, Happy Valley continued to fight hard, but was unable to make a run to close the gap.
Absher led the way with 16 points for the Lady Warriors. Wood had nine points.
