Lady Warriors hold off South; Warriors fall in Three Rivers Clash

Happy Valley picked up a key road win on Friday night.

The Lady Warriors held off Sullivan South 40-36 in Three Rivers Conference action in Kingsport. In the boys’ game, Happy Valley dropped a 76-34 decision to the Rebels.


In the girls’ contest, the Lady Warriors had to hold off a late charge.

The teams traded points in the early going as South maintained a slim 10-9 lead after eight minutes of play. Shalyn Whitson hit three key shots in the second quarter to push the Lady Warriors to a 24-18 halftime lead.

The Happy Valley defense limited the Lady Rebels to just four points in the third quarter. Kadie Bailey knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to extend the HV lead to 11 points heading to the final eight minutes.

South, however, made a late run, but Happy Valley was able to hold on for the key district win.

Whitson led the way with 14 points, while Bailey tallied 11 points. Olivia Absher scored five points in the game and made her presence felt on the defensive side of the ball as she held South’s leading scorer Alex Harris to just two points.

In the boys’ game, the shorthanded Warriors were unable to keep pace with South’s high octane offense.

Happy Valley saw the home-standing Rebels race out to a 53-16 lead in the first two-quarters of the game. The Warriors continued to battle but was unable to match the South offense.

Dylan Willis had 11 points to lead the way for Happy Valley.
