The Happy Valley girls’ basketball team kept on rolling Monday night.

The Lady Warriors won their 10th straight game with a 32-23 victory over University High at Brooks Gym. On the boys’ side, the Warriors were unable to overcome a slow start in a 69-44 loss to the Bucs.

For the Lady Warriors, it was a defensive slug fest all night.

Points were at a premium as HV took a 5-3 lead after eight minutes of play. The offensive pace picked up a tad in the second stanza as the Lady Warriors pushed their advantaged to 16-13 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Happy Valley defense clamped down holding the Lady Bucs to just two points. That allowed HV to take a 24-15 lead into the final stanza. From there, the Lady Warriors kept UH at bay to secure the win.

Shalyn Whitson had 11 points to lead the way, while Bailey Ball had eight points. Olivia Absher had six points in the win.

For the HV boys, an early deficit was too much to overcome.

The Bucs jumped out to a 14-2 lead after eight minutes of play and pushed their lead to 32-14 at the half. Any thoughts of a rally were erased as UH doubled-up the Warriors in the third quarter to take a 25-point lead into the final quarter.

Bryce Carter led the way for HV with 13 points, and Noah Stevens added seven points. James Harmon tallied six points in the win.
