Happy Valley was on the wrong side of a thriller on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors saw their season come to a close in heartbreaking fashion as Sullivan East took a 6-4 victory in a District 1-AA Softball Tournament elimination game at Elizabethton with a sixth inning two-run homerun.

HV took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Kate Roberts scored after Olivia Kelly put the ball in play. Sullivan East answered in the bottom of the frame with a run of their own to tie things up going to the second.

In the second inning, Sullivan East pushed the lead to 3-1, and then added another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 advantage into the fourth.

The Lady Warriors, however, weren’t going down without a fight

With hits from Claire Johnson, Abby Holt and Absher plated runs to give the Lady Warriors a 5-4 advantage after four and a half innings.

Sullivan East answered the Lady Warriors big inning with a single run to even things up going to the fifth.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Kylee Wolfe hit a home run over centerfield to retake the lead for the Lady Patriots. Happy Valley got a base runner aboard in the seventh but was unable to keep the inning going.

Kadie Havner and Absher had three hits a piece. Johnson added two hits to the HV cause.
