Lady Warriors upend Elizabethton; Robinson leads EHS boys to win

It had been a long time coming for Happy Valley.

The Lady Warriors snapped a lengthy streak by defeating Elizabethton 45-39 inside Treadway Gymnasium.


Michael Robinson scored 42 points to push the Cyclones to a 66-51 victory over the visiting Warriors.

For the Lady Warriors, the win snapped an 18-game losing streak against Elizabethton dating back to 2008-2009 season.

The teams traded points in the early going as the first quarter ended knotted in a 14-14 tie. The Happy Valley defense turned up the pressure to outscore EHS 11-3 in the second quarter and used that to take a 25-17 lead at the half.

Elizabethton, however, fought back with a vengeance. The Lady Cyclones closed the gap to two points going into the fourth quarter and regained the late in the later stages of the quarter.

Happy Valley responded late and then secured the win on the free throw line.

Adrienne Henegar had 16 points to lead HV, while Bayley McGee tallied 12 points in the win.


Haley Burleson scored 11 points for Elizabethton. Ashley Depew recorded 10 points.

In the boys’ game, Happy Valley went toe-to-toe with Robinson and company in the early going.

After Elizabethton took an 11-6 lead in the second quarter, EHS outscored HV 18-9 to take control heading into the half.

The Cyclones never looked back from there.

Robinson’s 42 points was a new school record. Alex Norwood added six points, while Corey Russell tallied four points.

Chris Young led Happy Valley with 11 points.
