Lady Warriors, Warriors drop heartbreakers at East

It was a pair of thrillers in Bluff City on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the result wasn’t in favor of Happy Valley.

The Lady Warriors saw their 10-game winning streak snapped in a 75-72 overtime loss to Sullivan East, while the Warriors came up short in a 68-62 decision.


In the girl’s game, it was all Happy Valley early.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 16-3 lead over the host Lady Patriots behind the play of Shalyn Whitson and Adrienne Henegar. The teams played even over the second quarter as HV held a 29-16 advantage at the break.

The Lady Patriots, however, began to battle back.

East trimmed the deficit by five points in the third quarter. HV looked to hold on for the win the final eight minutes, but East saw Hayley Grubb hit a shot with five seconds left to force an extra period.

In the extra period, the Lady Warriors traded shots with East, but was unable to get back in front in the final minute.

Whitson had 27 points to lead the way, while Henegar finished with 24 points. Bailey Ball added nine points.

On the boy’s side, it was a nearly even for the first half. The Warriors took a 14-12 lead after a quarter of play, but the Patriots eeked back out in front for a 25-24 advantage at the half.

In the third quarter, the Patriots outscored Happy Valley 25-15 to take a 50-39 advantage into the final quarter The Warriors, however, battled back to tie the game at 60-60 late in the quarter. Sullivan East used a late run from that point to take the win.

Dylan Willis led the way for Happy Valley with 17 points. Noah Stevens added 15 points, while Bryce Carter and James Harmon tallied eight points apiece.
