Monday Round-up: Bulldogs, Lady Cyclones fall

Sullivan East 61, Hampton 53 (boys)
The Bulldogs came up short in a hard-fought battle with Sullivan East on Monday evening.

Hampton jumped out to a 22-19 lead in the first quarter but saw the Patriots double-up in the second stanza to take a 37-31 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs cut into the lead in the third quarter, but East was able to secure the win in the final quarter.

Garrett Vines had 14 points to pace Hampton, while Caleb Oaks added 12 points. Jordan Bentley added nine points.

Grainger 70, Elizabethton 48 (girls)
The Lady Cyclones were unable to overcome a slow start and turnovers in the opening game of the Grainger tournament.

The Lady Grizz took a 20-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back on their homecourt. EHS stayed with Grainger in the third and fourth quarter but was unable to cut into the lead.

Morgan Headrick had 19 points to lead Elizabethton, while McKendra Norris had 10 points. Abbey Townsend added six points.

Grainger was paced by Tori Rutherford’s 34 points.
