Unaka 9, Happy Valley 2 (softball)
The Lady Rangers used a pair of big innings to take an opening day victory over county foe Happy Valley.
After the Lady Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, Unaka plated four runs in the home side of the third to take the lead. Each time added a run in the fourth, but Unaka took control with four more runs in the sixth.
Lilie Kiser went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI for Unaka, while Sadie Shoun also had two hits apiece. Kendall Bare added three RBI.
In the circle, Kailey Wilson allowed just two earned runs on seven hits to pick up the win.
Olivia Absher was 3-for-3 to pace the Lady Warriors, while Kadie Havner was 2-for-3.
Elizabethton 1, Sullivan East 0 (baseball)
The Cyclones worked overtime on opening day, and it resulted in a win.
Elizabethton saw Matthew Dailey push Karson Dillard across the plate in the bottom of the ninth for the walkoff win.
Dailey finished with two hits, while Lawson Wagner and Dillard added a hit a piece. On the mound, Lawson Wagner picked up the win for the Cyclones as he allowed just two hits in four innings of work.
Evan Carter also had a masterful performance on the mound as he struck out 11 East batters in five innings of work.
South Greene 6, Hampton 5 (baseball)
The Bulldogs saw a gutsy effort come up short on opening day.
Hampton held a 5-3 lead going to the final inning, but the Rebels were able to take advantage of a big seventh inning to rally for the win.
Sophomore Parker Henry allowed just one earned run in three innings of work, while Devin Riddle had a strong in relief.
Josh Owens led Hampton at the plate with two RBI off a single and double.
