Monday Roundup: Cyclones, Lady Cyclones win to advance

Elizabethton 9, Sullivan East 8 (baseball)
Ethan Eggleston drove in three runs to power the Cyclones to a walk off win in the District 1-AA Baseball Tournament.

The Cyclones found themselves in a two-run deficit with two outs in the final inning. However, Elizabethton kept alive with timely hits setting the stage for Eggleston’s game winning hit.

Brodie Adams, Evan Carter, Michael Robinson and Corey Russell were all 2-for-4 at the plate for Elizabethton. In all, eight Cyclones recorded hits.

Adams got the starting nod at pitcher as he allowed four runs on four hits in four innings of work. The Cyclones advanced to play Sullivan South at 6 p.m., on Wednesday.


Happy Valley 7, Johnson County 4 (baseball)
The Warriors erased a two-run deficit to stay alive in the District 1-AA Baseball tournament. Happy Valley, who trailed 2-0 entering the fifth inning, scored seven straight runs in the fifth and sixth to take control.

Dustun Sams went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the HV offense, while he also picked up the win as he allowed just four hits, four unearned runs and struck out 10 batters.

Will Hampton went 2-for-2, while Tyler Hurley had a 2-for-4 performance.

Elizabethton 9, Sullivan East 2 (softball)
The Lady Cyclones broke a 2-2 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to advance to the Winner’s Bracket Final on Tuesday.

Abbi McKinney, Macie Herrmann, Lauren Brickey, Autumn Hensley and Allison Riddle all had two hits apiece for Elizabethton.

In the pitching circle, Brickey allowed two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts in a complete game effort.

University High 3, Unaka 2 (Baseball)
After seven scoreless innings, the Rangers came up a run short.

Unaka came up a run short as they were unable to answer three UH runs in the eighth in the District 1-A Baseball Tournament.

Isaac Hill, Blake King and Dakota Gallimore had two hits apiece, while John Ramsey, Bryson Street and John-Wesley Hardin each added a hit.

Ramsey pitched a gem on the mound as he allowed two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.

The Rangers will face Hampton in an elimination game on Tuesday.
