The third inning was the difference-maker.
Elizabethton plated eight runs in the third that powered the Cyclones to a 13-3 win over Hampton at Joe O’Brien Field on Saturday evening.
Hampton got on the board first as Morgan Lyons scored off a Collin Morgan sacrifice.
Elizabethton, however, countered with two of their own as Caleb Hambrick scored off a Zac Workman single, and Gage Treadway took advantage of a Hampton error to take a 2-1 lead after an inning of play.
The Cyclones opened things up in the third as they erupted for eight runs to take a 10-1 advantage after three complete.
The teams traded runs in the final two innings as Elizabethton prevented the Hampton rally.
Treadway was 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Cade Russell and Workman had two hits a piece.
Lyons and Morgan recorded a RBI apiece for the Bulldogs.
Ethan Meir picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on two hits in three innings of work.
Josh Whitson was handed the loss on the mound as he allowed three earned runs on five hits.
