Jake Roberts and company delivered a statement win on Friday night.

Elizabethton jumped out early and then held off a late Sullivan East rally to take a 79-72 victory over the Patriots. Roberts tallied a program-record 46 points in the win.

In the girls’ game, EHS was unable to rally past the Lady Patriots as Sullivan East took a 53-41 victory.

For the Elizabethton boys, it was a hot start that set the tone.

EHS raced out to an 11-2 lead in the first six minutes of the half and then used a quick 4-0 run to take a 16-8 advantage into the second quarter.

Momentum continued to stay with EHS behind the play of Roberts in the second quarter as the Cyclones pushed the lead to 17 points midway through the quarter.

A quick East run to end the half gave EHS a 33-22 advantage at the break.

The third quarter was much the same as William Willocks and Nick Wilson hit early shots before Roberts reeled off 14 points for EHS to push the lead to 19.

East, however, continued to battle in the final quarter.

A quick Patriot run to open the fourth quarter trimmed the EHS to one point midway through the quarter. Elizabethton, however, held on to take the victory.

Along with Roberts’ big night, Wilson finished with 15 points.

In the girls’ game, Elizabethton had to battle back from an early deficit.

After East took a 14-7 lead after eight minutes of play, the Lady Patriots pushed the advantage to double-digits early in the second. Lina Lyon and the Lady Cyclones, however, battled back as shots from Lyon stopped the East run.

Sullivan East maintained a 28-14 lead at the half.

The EHS offensive attack settled down as they traded shots with the Lady Patriots for most of the second half.

Elizabethton went on a quick run to open the final quarter as Morgan Headrick hit key shots along with Lyon to pull within eight points with just under five minutes to play.

The Lady Patriots, however, converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to stop the run and then secured the win at the line.

Lyon finished with 15 points to pace Elizabethton, while Headrick had 11 points. Renna Lane scored seven points.
