Thursday Round-up: Lady ‘Landers Storm to District Win; Lady Bulldogs Break Into Win Column

Hampton 3, Mitchell County (N.C.) 1
The Lady Bulldogs are back in the win column for the first time since 2019.

After Mitchell County opened the game with two runs in the visiting side of the first, the Lady Bulldogs went to work.

Rachel Fair touched home plate in the bottom of the second to get a run back for Hampton, and Abbie Lunsford tied things up in the third. Willis was walked to open the fifth, and Macy Henry drove the run home to power Hampton to the win.

Henry had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs, while Ryliegh Nickles, Willis, Lunsford, and Fair hit tallied a hit.

Cloudland 14, University High 1
Cloudland rolled to a district win on Thursday afternoon.

Ella Benfield led Cloudland with a 4-for-4 performance with three RBI, while Karah Fields, Layken Blair, Izabella Christman, and Saharra McKinney had tallied two hits in the win.

Chuckey-Doak 6, Happy Valley 5 (11 innings)
The Lady Warriors came up short in a thrilling extra-innings battle.

Aleah Grindstaff and Laura Rice were both 3-for-5 at the plate, and Rice added two RBI. Maddie Lingerfelt had two RBI and two hits for HV.

In the pitching circle, Ella Marvell allowed just two earned runs on nine hits in 11 innings of work.

Elizabethton 8, Volunteer 1
The Lady Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back on Thursday.

Elizabethton took a 3-0 lead in the opening inning, and pushed the advantage to 8-0 after two.

Maely Ingram, Mollie Johnson, Maddie O’Quinn, and Kenidy Harris each had two hits apiece for Elizabethton. Harris had four RBI, while O’Quinn added three.

In the pitching circle, Madisun Pritchard got the win as she allowed just one unearned run on six hits with nine strikeouts.

Hampton 8, Happy Valley 5
The Bulldogs picked up their fourth consecutive victory over their county rival on Thursday afternoon.

Hampton jumped out to a 6-0 lead through two and a half innings, but the Warriors battled back to pull within a run entering the seventh.

The Bulldogs, however, plated two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Caleb Royston was 2-for-4 at the plate for Hampton with three RBI, while McKinley Kuhn and Collin Morgan added three and two RBI, respectively.

Royston picked up the win on the mound as he struck out 11 batters and allowed just four earned runs on five hits.

Tucker Shoun went 3-for-3 for the Warriors, while Andrew Little added two RBI.

On the mound, Little allowed just four earned runs on five hits in three innings of work, while Shoun allowed two earned runs on two hits in three innings of relief work.
