Tuesday Round-up: Elizabethton sweeps; Lady Bulldogs take win

Elizabethton 60, Johnson County 57 (girls)
The Lady Cyclones picked up a thrilling win in Johnson County Tuesday night.

A back-and-forth battle from the opening tip saw neither team able to get any separation for most of the game. Morgan Headrick helped clinch the game in the final moments as she scored seven points in the final eight minutes.

Kaylen Shell, who scored her 1,000th career point, and Headrick had 10 points apiece to lead Elizabethton. Kelsie Winters and Lina Lyon had eight apiece.

Emmy Miller led Johnson County with 18 points.


Elizabethton 54, Johnson County 43 (boys)
The Cyclones used a strong third quarter to pull away for a road win on Tuesday night.

Elizabethton, who led 21-20 at the half, outscored the Longhorns 13-3 in the third quarter to get some breathing room entering the final quarter.

Nico Ashley had 18 points to lead the way, while Jake Roberts had 11 points. Parker Hughes finished the night with 10 points.

Lucas Phillips led Johnson County with 13 points.

University 82, Hampton 53 (boys)
The Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with a torrid offensive attack on the road Tuesday night.

UH methodically pulled away from the Bulldogs behind the play of Kaleb Meredith and Marshall Fleenor.

Jordan Bentley had 15 points to lead Hampton, while Morgan Lyons had 12 points. Rocky Croy and Garrett Vines had eight points apiece.

Meredith had 37 points to lead UH, while Fleenor finished with 25 points.

Hampton 37, University 20 (girls)
The Lady Bulldogs overcame a rough first-half to pick up a District 1-A win on the road.

Hampton was unable to get shots to fall in the early going as the Lady Bucs took a 10-6 lead. HHS took the lead in the second quarter and maintained a 16-14 advantage at the half.

In the second half, Hampton was able to get things rolling a bit as they outscored UH 15-6 in the third quarter and held the Lady Bucs scoreless in the final stanza to secure the win.

Hazen Brummitt had 14 points to lead the way, while Hannah Collins scored eight points in the win.
