Tuesday Round-up: HV splits with Unicoi; Cyclones roll past UH

Happy Valley 42, Unicoi County 35 (girls)
The Lady Warriors defended home court on Tuesday night.

After holding an 8-6 lead after a quarter of play, HV was able to get a little breathing room as five players scored in the frame to push the lead to 21-13 at the half.

The third quarter saw the teams play even, and the Lady Warriors were able to keep Unicoi at bay in the final quarter to secure the win.

Kadie Bailey had 11 points for the Lady Warriors. Marcida Moore tallied nine points.

Elizabethton 80, University High 65 (boys)
The Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back.

Elizabethton raced out to a 28-16 advantage in the first quarter. EHS pushed the lead to 16 points by the half.

In the second half, UH was able to trim the lead to 10 points, but Elizabethton was able to stop the run and secure the win.

Jake Roberts had 27 points for the Cyclones, while Nick Wilson had 18 points. William Willocks tallied 17 points.

Braden Phillips added 12 points for EHS.


Unicoi County 67, Happy Valley 56 (boys)
The Warriors were unable to recover from a slow start on Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils limited HV to just one point in the first quarter. The Warriors were able to get the offense cranked up in the second stanza, but UC held a 32-14 advantage at the half.

Happy Valley battled back in the third quarter trimming the lead but was unable to complete a rally in the final quarter.

Blake Young had 20 points for HV. Andrew Clawson and Andrew Little had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Monday
Hampton 76, South Greene 68 (boys)
The Bulldogs responded after a late Rebel run.

The Rebels erased a 10-point halftime lead in the second half, but Hampton answered with key shots to stop and run and get some separation.

Morgan Lyons had 27 points to lead the way for Hampton. Parker Henry and Hayden Campbell added eight points each.

South Greene 58, Hampton 29 (girls)
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with a fast-paced Lady Rebel offense.

SG jumped out to a quick 13-1 lead and then maintained a 35-10 advantage at the half. Hampton continued to battle in the second half but was unable to make a run.

Linsey Jenkins led Hampton with nine points. Madi McClain added eight points for the Lady Bulldog cause.
