For Elizabethton, twice is just as nice.
The Lady Cyclones captured their second consecutive District 1-AA Championship with a 59-47 victory over Sullivan Central on Monday night at Sullivan East.
EHS will host their first-round Region 1-AA tournament game on Friday.
On Monday, Elizabethton handed the Lady Cougars their first loss against competition from the state of Tennessee.
The game was a battle as the Lady Cyclones took a 12-11 lead after a quarter of play and maintained a four-point lead at the half.
Elizabethton continued to keep Central at bay throughout the third quarter, but the Lady Cougars battled back in the final stanza.
A quick Central run erased the EHS lead and pulled the Lady Cougars within one point.
Elizabethton, however, saw Lina Lyon intercept a pass and take it for a lay-up with just under three minutes to play to spark a 16-5 run to end the game – including key shots from Kaitlin Bailey and Torrie Roberts.
Bailey, who was selected as the District 1-AA tournament MVP, led the way with 18 points.
Morgan Headrick finished with 12 points, while Kaylen Shell scored 12 points in the game.
