Rain couldn’t put a damper on the Happy Valley offense.
Behind 222 yards of all purpose yards from Dylan Street and 107 from Josh Hammonds, the Warriors made some noise on the Creek with a 56-8 victory against Unaka Friday night.
Happy Valley (3-2) moved to moved their win streak to three games on the season while the Rangers fell to 1-5.
The Warriors outgunned Unaka 316-102 on the offensive side of the ball and got in sync early with senior tailback Mookie Madison going in from 4 yards out to give on a six-play, 57-yard drive. Sage Haun (4-6, 64 yards, 2 TDs) followed it up with a 25-yard pass to Hammonds to give Happy Valley a 14-0 lead at the end of the first.
Dylan Street got the Warriors on the board early in the second on a 15-yard scamper with 11:55 to go to cap off a two-play drive the spilled into the second frame. Hammonds and Madison (seven carries, 88 yards, 2 TDs) added another score each from over 30 yards out to boast a 35-0 advantage at intermission.
Head coach Jason Jarrett and Co. wrapped up their scoring efforts in the third quarter. Dylan Townsend got on the board with under five minutes to go on a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Hammonds added his third score of the night on a 45-yard interception to the house. Street also got in the fun on special teams by adding an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown with under a minute left in the quarter.
Unaka didn’t go quietly in the fourth. The Rangers reached pay dirt at the 8:29 mark with John Ramsey connecting with Matthew Bentley from 11 yards out. Micah Hunt added a two-point conversion for the team’s lone scoring drive.
Warrior Austin Hicks added seven carries for 37 yards on offense and added another element on defense with six tackles and an interception in the first half. Kicker Justin Morefield went perfect following each score, going 8-for-8 on point-after attempts.
Hunt finished with 15 carries for 83 yards for Unaka and helped the team get into scoring position in the fourth. Ramsey (4-of-8, 21 yards, TD, INT) rotated at quarterback with Blake King (7-of-12, 37 yards, INT). Jacob Day led the Rangers’ receiving core with three receptions for 23 yards.
Happy Valley gets back to the drawing board in league play next Friday welcoming Hampton. The Bulldogs (5-0) enter the contest after defeating Cloudland 56-30. The Rangers will host the Highlanders conference action. Kickoff for both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
