Happy Valley came up short on Friday night.

The Warriors dropped a 36-12 decision to Cumberland Gap on Homecoming on Warrior Hill.

It was a defensive battle in the early going as neither team was able to break onto the board.

HV threatened early in the second quarter, but was stopped at the Panther one-yard line.

The Warriors finally broke onto the board midway through the stanza as Reagan Ensor hit Andrew Little for a short touchdown as HV took a 6-0 lead.

Cumberland Gap, however, answered on the ensuing kickoff with a 78-yard kickoff return for a score to even things up at 6-6.

After the Panthers capitalized on an HV turnover to take a 12-6 lead, Ensor found Blake Garmon for a 48-yard touchdown as HV tied the game at 12-12 with two minutes left in the first half.

Happy Valley, however, was unable to keep pace with the Panthers in the second half as Cumberland Gap reeled off 24 unanswered points.

Ensor was 8-of-15 passing for 129 yards, while Little had 102 yards on six catches. Pedro Colunga had 61 yards on 17 carries to lead the Warriors’ ground game.

The Warriors are set to host Johnson County next Friday night.
