Warriors, Lady Warriors fall to Sullivan Central

The Happy Valley boys’ basketball team lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night.

The Warriors saw Sullivan Central score as the final horn sounded to take a 48-47 win on Warrior Hill in Three Rivers Conference action. In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors fell 64-46 to the state-ranked Lady Cougars.


The boys’ game saw Central jump out fast as the Cougars took an 18-6 lead after eight minutes of play. The Warriors, however, settled down and got things cranking offensively while limiting Central defensively.

Happy Valley outscored the Cougars 15-4 in the second quarter and continued that trend in the third by outscoring them 15-4. Sullivan Central got things going again in the fourth quarter setting the stage for the final heroics.

Alex Lunceford had 19 points for the Warriors. Luke Roberts scored 10 points.

In the girls’ game, Happy Valley was unable to keep pace with a torrid Sullivan Central attack.

The Lady Warriors found themselves in an early hole as the Lady Cougars took a 17-8 lead after a quarter of play. Happy Valley continued to battle as they outscored Central 11-9 in the second quarter to trim the lead.

However, Sullivan Central slowly pulled away in the second half despite a hard-fought effort from the upset-minded Lady Warriors.

Shalyn Whitson had 15 points to lead Happy Valley, while Olivia Absher had 11 points. Jaiden Clark finished with nine points.
