It was a tough night on Warrior Hill.
Happy Valley dropped a pair of Three Rivers Conference match-ups to Unicoi County as the Lady Warriors fell 61-46 to the Lady Blue Devils and the Warriors dropped a 58-48 decision.
In the boys’ game, HV found themselves having to battle from behind. Unicoi County jumped out to a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the advantage to 36-21 at the
half.
The Warriors, however, continued to battle in the second half as HV made runs to close the gap to 10 points. That was as close as they could get despite a hard-fought effort.
Jacob Surcey had 23 points to lead HV, while Bryce Carter had 11 points.
For the Lady Warriors, it was a back-and-forth battle for most of the night.
Adrienne Henegar scored nine points in the opening quarter as HV trailed only 17-14 going to the second quarter. In the second quarter, a balanced Lady Warrior attack helped trim the deficit to just one point at the half.
The third quarter saw Unicoi take some breathing room by outscoring the Lady Warriors 15-7 in the frame. HV made a run but was unable to close the gap any further in the final quarter.
Henegar had 17 points to lead the way, while Kate Roberts added nine points. Haley Green tallied 10 rebounds to go along with eight points and four assists.
