Warriors rally past Central; Lady Warriors drop hard-fought battle

The Happy Valley boys team stayed hot in Three Rivers play.

The Warriors rallied to upend Sullivan Central 53-49 for a home conference win on Warrior Hill. In the girls’ game, Central used a strong first quarter and then held on against the Lady Warriors for a 61-53 victory.

For the Warriors, it was a methodical battle.

After Central took a 14-11 lead after a quarter of play, defense took over as points came at a premium. HV was able to trim the Cougar lead to one-point at the half.

In the third quarter, the Cougars pushed the lead back out to five points as HV wouldn’t go away. The Warriors took control in the final quarter as Dylan Willis scored 11 points to help HV rally to the win.

Bryce Carter had 13 points to lead HV, while Willis tallied 11 points. James Harmon and Noah Stevens had nine and seven points, respectively.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Cougars jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter. Happy Valley, however, wasn’t going down without a fight. Adriene Henegar and Shalyn Whitson hit baskets to help the Lady Warriors stay in touch as Central maintained a 29-24 lead at the half.

The Warriors continued to make runs at Central in the second half but was unable to get in front of the league-leading Lady Cougars.

Henegar had 24 points to lead the way, while Whitson tallied 20 points.
