The Happy Valley boys’ basketball team was unable to extend their season on Tuesday night.
The Warriors dropped a 66-46 decision to West Greene in the opening round of the District 1-2A tournament.
The loss ends Happy Valley’s season one game away from the region tournament.
Happy Valley got an early spark as Dakota Grindstaff and Cole Deakins each hit a 3-pointer and Landon Babb added four first-quarter points. The Warriors, however, ended the first quarter tied at 11-11 after leading early.
West Greene opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run, but the Warriors battled back as James Murray converted an and-one to pull HV back within four points.
West Greene answered quickly to take a 30-22 into the half.
The Warriors continued to battle, but were unable to overcome a four-and-a-half-minute drought to start the third quarter.
The Warriors were able to get the offensive going with nine quick points but trailed 45-31 with a quarter to play.
Happy Valley wouldn’t go quietly but was unable to rally in the final eight minutes.
Murray had 13 points to lead the Warriors, while Babb had 11 points. Deakins finished with six points.
