The Warriors took care of business when they needed to.
Happy Valley captured a 56-52 victory over Cherokee in nonconference action on Tuesday night. In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors rolled to a 49-18 victory.
It was a back and forth battle in the boys’ game.
After the first quarter ended in an 8-8 stalemate, Cherokee took a 24-20 lead into the half. HV, however, battled back by taking a lead into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter, the teams traded the lead until James Harmon hit a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to clinch the win for Happy Valley.
Alex Lunceford had 15 points, while Blake Young and Harmon had 13 points apiece.
For the Lady Warriors, defense set the tone early.
HV held Cherokee to just one point in the first quarter as the Lady Warriors captured a 7-1 advantage after eight minutes of play. Happy Valley was able to extend the lead in the second quarter to 21-7 and never looked back.
Jaiden Clark had 12 points to pace the Lady Warriors, while Kadie Bailey and Shalyn Whitson had nine points. Olivia Absher and Kenzie Ramey had six points apiece.
