It was a wild opening game for the District 1-AA Baseball tournament.

Happy Valley recovered after watching a 9-0 lead evaporate to take a 10-9 victory in the play-in game on Thursday at Twins Field.

With the win, the Warriors advance into the double-elimination tournament and will take on Sullivan East at 5 p.m.

After a scoreless first inning, the Warrior bats came out firing as Happy Valley reeled off nine runs with timely hits and taking advantage of Cougar miscues throughout the order. Sullivan Central, however, cut a runoff in the third inning and five more off the HV lead in the fourth.

Sullivan Central evened things up in the top of the sixth with three more runs. The Warriors regained the lead in the home side of the frame as Dylan Willis scored on a wild pitch. That proved to be the winning run.

Drew Turner and Michael Harrah had two hits apiece, while Jacob Absher, Bryce Carter, Hunter Smith and Willis each had a hit.

Harrah had a strong showing on the mound as he struck out six batters while giving up eight hits. Carter got the win as he pitched two innings and didn’t allow a hit.
