Wednesday Round-up: Cyclones Limit Providence For Win; Lady Warriors, Warriors Drop Hard Fought Battles

Elizabethton 5, Providence Academy 3 (baseball)
The Cyclones jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the early going and then held on for a 5-3 nonconference victory on Wednesday night.

Elizabethton held the Knights to just one hit behind a combined pitching effort from Wesley Shankles, Zak Workman, and Bryson Rollins.

Shankles picked up the win on the mound as he allowed just one earned run in just under four innings of work with four strikeouts.
Noah Rosato, Cooper Tipton, Gage Treadway, Padraig Murphy, and Rollins each had a hit offensively for the Cyclones.

University High 10, Happy Valley 0 (baseball)
The Warriors were unable to get anything doing against UH on Wednesday.

UH pitcher Kaleb Meredith struck out nine HV batters to lead the Bucs, and Andrew Little recorded the lone hit of the evening for the Warriors.

Sullivan East 14, Happy Valley 4 (softball)
The Lady Warriors were unable to overcome an early deficit on Wednesday at Sullivan East.

After the Lady Patriots jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings, HV battled back to trim the lead 8-4 after the fourth but was unable to get any closer in the fifth inning.

Maddie Lingerfelt was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI for the Lady Warriors, while Cierra Southerland and Blakelee Ollis had an RBI apiece.

Elizabethton 5, Unicoi County 4 (boys’ tennis)
The Cyclones captured a thrilling 5-4 Three Rivers Conference win on Wednesday afternoon.

Elijah Smith and Kaden Street picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Alex Taylor and Nickle Wilson were victorious at the No. 4 and No. 5 slots.

In doubles action, Smith and Street won 8-6 at the No. 1 position.

Unicoi County 7, Elizabethton 2 (girls’ tennis)
The Lady Cyclones were unable to edge ahead of their Three Rivers foe on Wednesday.

At No. 6 singles, Katie Lee took a thrilling 9-8 (11-9) win, and the duo of Karie Merritt and Alley Taylor had a strong 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles for EHS.
